Silsoe C of E VC Lower School

Christian Vision

Vision:
Together we grow

Our vision at Silsoe is for all to flourish as confident, resilient and kind individuals who encourage one another and grow together in God’s love.

“Then Christ will make His home in your hearts as you trust in Him. Your roots will grow down into God’s love and keep you strong.” Ephesians 3: 17

Mission:
Silsoe Lower School is a welcoming, caring and inclusive school which fosters an ethos of nurture and support for our children based on our ‘Christian Values’.  These values are our guiding principles. We value each child as an individual and aim to equip them with the knowledge and skills they need to flourish socially and emotionally and to achieve their academic potential. This helps us to work together to create a successful and happy school.

We are a Church of England voluntary controlled school, and are proud of our close partnership with our local village church and the St Albans Diocese. We are proud of our church foundation and it is this which defines our ethos and makes our school distinctive.

Our committed and caring staff provide our children with a range of learning opportunities and experiences which enable every learner to gain knowledge and understanding across the curriculum,

We encourage our children to become resilient in all aspects of their school life  - building friendships, developing skills and overcoming challenges. We aim to foster a positive attitude to learning alongside increased self confidence and self belief. We encourage our children to achieve a growth mindset and to have a positive ‘can do’ attitude to their tasks.

We celebrate our children’s successes and support them in times of adversity. We want every child to feel safe and happy in school and to know that they can rely on every member of staff to listen to and support them.

The friendships children develop whilst at school help them to value and understand the importance of kindness, care and cooperation. We support our children to work together to achieve more.

We encourage children to take responsibility of for themselves and to consider how our actions effect the wider community and world. We want our children to have well considered opinions and feelings which they can share and explain with others as they become rounded citizens who show understanding, empathy and tolerance to others and who have the courage to stand up for what they believe in.

We aim for our children to leave Silsoe Lower School ready for the next stage of their education and with a life long memory and understanding of our vision and values.

Theology:
‘Together we grow’ reflects that through working together we are drawing on the love of Jesus as we support and encourage each other, because, that is what Jesus did.

Jesus promoted positive relationships and, in this way, we seek to build and secure positive relationships with both our self and others within our school community. Following Jesus’ teaching and example, we also strive to build relationships with others outside our school community in our mutual desire for the flourishing of people and planet.

Ephesians 3 v 17 starts by saying “Then Christ will make His home in our hearts as you trust in Him.” We want God to make his home in our hearts and for our children to know and understand that God is always with us.

The second half of Ephesians 3 v 17 states, “Your roots will grow down into God’s love and keep you strong.” We know that through understanding and living our vision, strongly rooted young people will grow who have a deep and secure understanding of the Christian values which we aspire to. They will then endeavour to show confidence, resilience and kindness in their own lives, following the example set by Jesus.

We grow in knowledge, we grow in maturity and we grow in God’s love – together.
