Forest School

"Forest School is an innovative educational approach to outdoor play and learning.”

The philosophy of Forest Schools is to encourage and inspire individuals of any age through positive outdoor experiences.
By participating in engaging, motivating achievable tasks and activities in an outdoor environment, each child has an opportunity to develop intrinsic motivation, sound emotional and social skills.
Within Silsoe, our Forest School enables practical outdoor learning opportunities for all of our children. Here the children have the opportunity to use tools, build dens, create pictures using natural materials, make potions, crowns, boats and to learn about the natural environment within the school grounds. Forest school fosters our children’s problem solving and cooperation skills.

Every child will, within their time at Silsoe, participate and succeed at every activity linked to the national curriculum within Forest School.

Letter from Parent

Dear Mrs Gates

Thank you for letting me join your Forest School class , I really enjoyed the sessions and I felt that I learnt a lot from the different approach to learning that both you and the Forest School approach advocates. I felt that the additional freedom [in choice of learning outcomes] experienced by the children fostered a high level creativity and curiosity in them. I felt that all the children responded to the additional responsibilities given to them by cooperating more fully as well as being very respectful of others feelings and viewpoints.

Many Thanks
